FACETS

I kept running into the same wall with the strategy games I love. You play for a few hours, you stumble onto the build that works, and then the game is basically over even though it keeps going. You're not making decisions anymore, you're just repeating the answer. Slot-machine builds, fights that are pure number checks, the same loop on repeat. So I tried to build the opposite.

FACETS is a small wave-defense auto-battler about never being allowed to settle. You protect a prism core by spending essence on auto-firing emitters in three damage facets: Heat, Frost, and Volt. They beat each other in a triangle. The catch is that every single wave, the enemies rotate which facet they resist. The build that carried you last round is dead weight this round. There is no broken build to find, because the target keeps moving.

It is built to stay fair while it does this to you. You always see the incoming resistances before the wave starts, and any of your towers that are about to be useless get flagged. You can reroll the shop, sell anything for essence, and re-tool between every wave. The economy is wired to the same idea: you earn essence by landing the right element into the right weakness, so playing the matchup correctly is literally what funds your next move. Adapt and you stay rich and strong. Ignore the rotation and you starve.

There is a real tension underneath it. You can merge same-element towers to level them up into something genuinely powerful, but a maxed single-element tower is the exact thing the rotation punishes. Go tall and risk getting walled, or go wide and stay flexible. That bet is the whole game.

What you do every wave:

  • Read the next wave's resistances
  • Buy and place emitters, or reroll for the element you need
  • Merge towers to level them, drop Amp Pylons to boost a cluster
  • Sell and rebuild as the matchup shifts
  • Hold the line for ten waves and keep the prism intact

Controls are mouse and one key. Click to buy and place, drop an emitter onto a matching one to merge, right-click to sell, space to start the wave.

This is a prototype, made solo, in a single file, with everything drawn from primitive shapes. No art passes, no audio yet. It is here because the core idea was worth getting in front of people. If the "you can never coast on one build" loop clicks for you, that is the thing I wanted to test, and I would genuinely like to know whether it lands.
